Davis Michaelsen is a second generation farm broadcaster and writer with deep roots in Grundy County, Iowa farming. Michaelsen grew up on the family farm where his grandfather grew corn, soybeans and hay and farrowed hogs. Meanwhile, his father maintained a flock of 300 ewes and for a short time, a hog operation of his own. When he was eight years old, the gift of a foundered pony led Michaelsen to horsemanship in 4-H and eventually a ten year career as a full time farrier and blacksmith.

Michaelsen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Northern Iowa which he proffered into work in academia after an injury sidelined him from shoeing horses. Michaelsen then joined the team at Pro Farmer in Cedar Falls, Iowa as the Editor of the Inputs Monitor. During his 13 years with the company, Michaelsen wrote and presented fertilizer and farm fuels analysis, livestock analysis for daily reports and gained valuable multi-media and public speaking skills. Along the way, Michaelsen also developed and hosted a number of successful podcasts for Farm Journal and for Pro Farmer.

Not long after joining the Pro Farmer team, Michaelsen teamed up with Chip Flory for the upstart radio program MarketRally which later merged with AgriTalk. AgriTalk aired live twice each market day on syndicated radio with a reach of roughly 165 terrestrial radio stations nationwide and a robust online following. Later, Michaelsen focused on land markets and worked his way up to become the Editor of Pro Farmer’s LandOwner.

Michaelsen brings a wide range of experiences, education and horse sense to the Nesvick and AgBull Media team. As the host of AgSquawk in the afternoon his passion for all things agriculture finds an outlet that Michaelsen hopes farmers and ag professionals will find valuable. Michaelsen quips, “I’d rather be useful than famous.”
